BRING DAS VELO NACH HAUSE

ROTES VELO Kompanie MANIFEST

Rotes Velo is an independent artist company that has been continuously active in various cities in Switzerland and abroad since its foundation in 2012. What sets our structure apart is that within our organisation there are no static roles. Each member takes over different functions based on the specifics of each project.

From the beginning, we've questioned the system of theatre production with the aim of allowing our projects to transcend the limitations of our resources. We quickly learned to manage resources better, find and share information, and expand contact with other companies and groups through the development of new forms of co-productions.

Given the rapid development of sensitive and essential issues in our society, we have, as a group, decided to act and react responsibly.

Our vision and mission, which guide our work and artistic community, are based on the following fundamental principles:

1. ART AS A SPACE FOR REFLECTION

We believe that one of the most important functions of art is to create spaces for encounter and reflection where there is no discrimination based on nationality, gender, sexual orientation, political, or religious belief. We welcome all who want to develop their ideas and dreams with us, respecting each other and learning from our differences.

2.
DEMOCRACY AND PARTICIPATION

Rotes Velo promotes democratic participation, where each member has an equal voice and the freedom to actively contribute with the development of an artistic and social vision.

3. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY

Respecting the diversity of genders, cultures, and all forms is in our nature. We have shaped our company into a bicycle that anyone can ride, accepting and sharing our principles. This is reflected not only in the themes and ideas of our productions but also in our organisation and creative processes.

4. PROMOTING HUMAN VALUES

Our artistic work reflects and promotes human values such as fairness, appreciation, dignity, freedom, respect, responsibility and openness in a respectful way. We share our principles with our audience and artists through various artistic projects that not only take place on stage but also include social activities such as workshops and open rehearsals, nurturing our association, and collaborating and supporting other artistic groups.
We place great importance on treating all people and their diverse backgrounds with respect in our collaboration, aiming to reach consensus while always respecting individual needs, bodies, and personal boundaries.

5.
DIVERSITY

Our bicycle consists of different parts, and we value them all equally, regardless of age, origin, ethical background, religion, political beliefs, gender, or professional status. Therefore, we do not believe in limiting capabilities but see the diverse abilities of people as our greatest potential. That's why we promote and value the convergence of different generations and people with varying abilities in our artistic processes to learn from each other and develop a common, non-arbitrary idea.

6. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

We believe that freedom of expression is a fundamental right of every person to create a fairer society. Therefore, we are inspired by diverse ideas and create space for consensus-based solutions. We listen to every member of our team and emphasize open communication, ensuring that all participants feel comfortable and safe with us. We promote exchange and make ourselves available as points of contact. Our goal is to create a trusting environment where everyone can freely express their thoughts and concerns.

We also do not believe that censorship is the path to a fairer society, as it restricts dialogue. Instead, we advocate for a space where differences are discussed and respected rather than silenced.

We are guided by Amy Edmondson's concept of "Team Psychological Safety." As the foundation for a creative work environment, we cultivate a safe environment where questions, concerns, ideas, and acknowledging mistakes are welcome without fear of negative consequences.

Team Psychological Safety is a concept focused on creating a safe and supportive environment within a team. It refers to the trust of team members that they can freely express their opinions, ideas, and concerns without fear of negative consequences or judgment. It promotes openness, collaboration, and learning within the team.

7. CODE OF CONDUCT AND PROTECTION

The safety of all our members and anyone in contact with us is a priority for us. For this reason, we aim for smooth and ongoing group communication.

After clarifications regarding the prevention and handling of workplace violence, gender-based violence, stalking, bullying, and any form of discrimination or censorship, we have decided to adhere to the CODE OF CONDUCT OF SCENE SCHWEIZ and sign the FAIRSPEC CODEX.

By signing the codex, we want to underline our commitment to upholding these principles in our daily actions. We publicly declare our commitment to this code and commit to regularly reviewing and adjusting our behaviour and working methods. We are determined to continuously work on our personal development and improve our work structures.

Based on our core values and more than 11 years of experience, we reaffirm our commitment to culture, artistic expression, and building a more inclusive and respectful world.

We look forward to creating art for and with people by building an environment where individuals with different stories and backgrounds can collectively unleash their creativity. We strive to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation to enable a diverse and inspiring artistic experience for everyone.

We invite all who share these values to join the Rotes Velo and actively participate in our ongoing pursuit of creativity and social change through art.

This manifesto is continuously evolving. We rely on the process of learning, respect, and understanding.

We look forward to your questions and contributions.
